Ms. Nix says her favorite aspects of teaching fourth and fifth graders are “reading chapter books with the class an incorporating social studies and art lessons with the same theme,” “conducting science experiments and helping them make discoveries,” and “getting into discussions of their beliefs, ideas, and desires.” She notes that what she most enjoys about teaching at FPS is “the stress-free, family-like environment and being able to incorporate my Christian beliefs in my lessons. I also like the leeway to use more hands-on lessons and creating different learning atmospheres.”

Ms. Nix grew up attending First Presbyterian Church as well as our preschool and kindergarten. She graduated from DeLand High School. She served in the United States Air Force for 22 ½ years as a communication computer system operator, teaching for nine of those years. She has also taught dance and piano. She loves music, especially liturgical dance and singing in the First Presbyterian praise band. A very involved member of First Presbyterian Church, Ms. Nix also works with the middle school youth, and serves as an elder on session as Christian Education moderator. One of her favorite joys is teaching music in Vacation Bible School each summer.
